I know that many individuals, especially teenage girls and young women like to have that beautiful bronze skin. Unfortunately, this procedure comes with a very hefty price: tanning in indoor salons.
Many people are flocking to these tanning booths as if they were going into obscurity. But tanning in salons can increase the chances of having skin cancer.
Does anyone remember the TAN Act? Probably not. This subject matter is rarely discussed in the mass media. The purpose of the TAN Act, or Tanning Accountability and Notification is to educate consumers about the risks of indoor tanning, in a nutshell. This is due to the fact that skin cancer is on the rise.
This is the skinny on these tanning booths. These ultraviolet rays in these booths are full of concentration. This is the same type of exposure that exists when individuals are out in the outdoors sun. It can take as much as twenty minutes before the tanning effect can take place. According to one study, women who frequent these tanning booths are more likely to develop melanoma by approximately fifty-five percent. This is a very alarming number to developing skin cancer from a tanning salon.
This news should be a wake-up call for anyone who are using the tanning booth or thinking about becoming a client of a tanning salon. It is to the point where there has to be federal legislation to inform the general public about the dangers of using tanning booths.
As a result, the Food and Drug Administration have to perform some type of testing for consumers. The purpose of this type of testing is to see if these warning labels on these booths are really educating the potential clients of these tanning salons. I think that in most cases, the clients are failing to yield the warnings. In contrast, many of these professionals are not to tell their potential clients about this because they are trying to make a living.
Many of us know people who are using these tanning booths on a regular basis, sometimes up to three or four times a week. That is a lot of times to get the skin really fried and baked! I know an individual who always likes to have that tanned look to her complexion. She insists on going to the tanning salon to achieve these effects.
My suggestion to her: buy some tanning lotion! It is a bit safer than getting her skin baked. I know that it can be messy, but at least she is not risking her life. Going to these tanning salons is like playing Russian Roulette with life. This type of cosmetic procedure is not worth dying for.
